Kasim Abid is an award-winning Iraqi filmmaker, director, producer and is the cameraman of all his films. He graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts- Baghdad and holds an MA from VGIK-All Union State Institute of Cinematography-Moscow. He came to London in 1982 where he continues to live and work as a filmmaker.
Co-Founder of ‘Independent Film and TV College’ non-governmental free-of-charge film-training centre in Baghdad. 21 films produced by the college’s students won prizes at Arab and international festivals. Also Kasim taught film directing and cinematography in Britain, Jordan, Sudan and Palestine (in Jerusalem, Gaza and Birzeit University).
Kasim was a jury member at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival 2010, and Ismailia International Film Festival 2013. He was also, the Director/Organizer of two festivals in Iraq:
Documentary Film Festival 2011and Baghdad Eye-Human Rights Film Festival 2012
‘Whispers of the cites’-filmed over several years of three visual stories in the Middle East 2O14. Libraries’ Award – Cinéma du Réel 2014
‘Life After the Fall’- Kasim filmed over 5 years in the immediate aftermath of the fall of the Iraqi regime. won best film at ‘DocFest Munich 2008’ amongst many other international film Awards. This film was screened on the UK Channel (4) television and others international satellite stations.
Directed and produced the award-winning documentary films ‘Naji Al Ali: An Artist with Vision’- winner of the London Arab Film Festival 2000.
